As the world’s largest medical device company, Medtronic plc generates most of its sales and profits from the U.S. healthcare system.

Medtronic faced a major business challenge:  as support for their Business Intelligence software was coming to an end, they needed to upgrade to a newer BI environment.

  • To migrate from Business Objects to the latest version

  • To ensure quicker service and consistent experience

  • To ensure that there would hardly be any downtime on the existing environment

    Migrate Data sources:

  • Seventeen (17) BW 3.5 datasources using SAP CRM as DataSource to BW 7.0 DataSource,

  • Two (2) BW 3.5 datasources with SAP ERP

  • Configuration/Number of Business Objects servers/After Upgrade ensure everything works fine in new BI environment

  • Report Issue: Reports were in an old format and needed to be upgraded along with interfaces to desperate systems. Migration of all content to a new version while the system was still up and running

  • Upgrade of the system without down time

  • Re-establish connectivity to interfaces and  rewrite Security settings for new tools in BI4.0

  • Training for users and developers

  • Report conversion

  • Zero downtime

  • Reduced monitoring and OS patch validation – Reducing the server’s count in the new version with increase in the configuration. This structure saved a lot of time for Business Objects administrators as the number of servers were reduced as compared to the older version

  • The new version was faster, robust and scalable

  • Updated and modernized the enterprise platform

  • New Portal
