DATA MIGRATIONS

Data and Application Migrations

DATA AND APPLICATION MIGRATIONS

A successful migration is always integrated with the data conversion project. It is W5 ‘s end-to-end governance and audit resilience framework built and defined by governance standards, and the Enterprise Common Information Model that ensures our success.

Start with Data Management Planning

The W5 team emphasizes the alignment of process with function and their impact on key business success variables/metrics. This includes a comprehensive review of the current, future, and gap processes at the enterprise level, and within business and operational units.

define recommendations

The migration and conversion objectives involve installing and configuration for development, quality, and production environments.  Integrated with the migration process is the end-to-end governance and audit resilience framework. We utilize best practices as defined by governance standards and the Enterprise Common Information Model. The purpose of this task involves investigating business requirements and related data to define recommendations related to the following:

  • Data migration strategy, challenges, and risks as it relates to data and the value it brings to improve your business processes with the least amount of pain points and interruptions
  • Preparation recommendations for data before and during the data migration exercise
  • Integration approach scenarios, risks, and recommendations
  • Data quality/data governance approach, before, during, and after data migration
  • Archive approach scenarios, risks, and recommendations

DATA QUALITY ASSESSMENT

Data will be investigated using a data quality assessment process. This assessment is comprised of the following fundamental efforts, which are:

    • The identification of suspect data quality issues, the current data quality environment, and the possible impact to organizational goals
    • Installation/use of data profiling/data quality software (EG: SAP Information Steward/Data Services)
    • The identification of data definitions (what makes the data ‘right’) and the technical analysis of the data (profiling, queries, and initial monitoring)

INFORMATION GOVERNANCE ASSESSMENT

An information governance assessment will be performed to:

  • Define the governance approach (active, passive, human)
  • Discover what to govern: business-critical objects & fields
  • Select the right suite of tools
  • Determine the leadership and organization model i.e. centralized, decentralized, federated
  • Establish processes and SLA for active and passive governance
  • Data mapping
  • Data Extract, transform, load (Current PI with ABAP)
  • Utilization of Data services (Future modeling for best practices reporting and analysis)
  • Portal development (SAP BusinessObjects InfoView) – Development only – seaport 1-week project will produce data in a manual CSV extraction format.
  • Additional items under consideration

DATA INTEGRATOR TOOL SET

DataServices (Data integrator) tool set to apply proper data lineage and governance for:

  • Reporting
  • Terminal reconciliation
  • TopTech system to system (MariaDB) reconciliation and harmonization** API development (if needed) is not part of the scope or work effort)
